The next morning, Jett came downstairs dressed in a soft, cream cowl neck sweater dress and her brown knee-high boots. Jerrik looked back at her, as was becoming his daily routine. It was as if he liked to see what she was wearing for the day. He smiled brightly.

Dez sat in the chair next to the couch. She grinned as she watched Jerrik smile hard at Jett. Jett could only roll her eyes at her friend.

“Morning, sunshine!” Dez sang out.

“Morning,” Jett replied.

“You look lovely, Jett,” Jerrik said.

“Thanks,” Jett replied bashfully.

“So, we’ve got a busy day today, and I’ve got it all covered.” Dez assured her. “I talked to Jay-Jay Crimes. He moved to Boston after his probation ended. I guess he started over and moved his life of crime to where the cops don’t know him. Anyway, he’s already getting the passport ready. Rik and I are gonna get some passport pictures taken, and then we’re gonna take a ride to Beantown.”

“Rik?” Jett mouthed to Jerrik.

He shrugged.

“We’re gonna give Jay the photos, and while he’s finishing the passport, I have some plans for big man over here as a surprise for you. Then we’ll roll back up here, and if we have enough time, go to the docks and see if we can’t see about getting him a job. You have to work Monday through Friday, so getting him to the docks to find a job during the week is impossible. So, I got you.”

“Why are you so good to me?” Jett asked.

“Because you helped me through school and convinced me I was smart enough to be a nurse.” Dez stood up, walked over to Jett, and clasped her arms. “Because you make people feel like they can accomplish anything, so you deserve the same.”

“That’s because I knew you could do it.”

“Aaaaah!” Dez fake cried as she pulled Jett into a hug. “Come back! I miss not having you a few minutes away.”

“I know!” Jett hugged her back just as tightly.

Jett felt a warm chest and strong arms band around her. Arms so long, they were able to also encircle her friend. She turned her head to the side. A curtain of blond hair covered her face as Jerrik laid the side of his face against the top of her head. Jett blew his hair out of her mouth.

“Um…Jerrik?”

“Aye?”

“What are you doing?”

“Embracing you both.”

“Because?”

“It looked so comforting.”

Dez pulled away and Jerrik took the opening. He wrapped his arms fully around Jett and hugged her from behind with a deep rumble in his chest as he hummed happily. Jett could feel his heart beat against her back. His heat enveloped her like a comforting blanket. His masculine scent mixed with his shampoo and something else she couldn’t put her finger on, filled her nostrils. Whatever it was made an almost unbearable ache radiate within her sex.

It’s gotta be his pheromones.

“Uh…I gotta go.” Jett shrugged out of his embrace.

“Have a good day at work,” Jerrik said.

“Thanks.” She looked over at Dez. “Watch him.
